Two Missing Tourists Found Dead Near Florence’s Secret Catacombs
Florence, Italy — Authorities confirmed this morning that the two American tourists who vanished last week were found dead near a sealed entrance to the rumored “secret catacombs” beneath the Basilica di San Lorenzo.
Local officials report the bodies were discovered by a drone operated by an amateur urban explorer. The tourists, both in their early 30s, had reportedly been researching unsanctioned tunnel tours on social media before their disappearance.
Mysteriously, their phones were found drained of power, and both were clutching a weathered parchment containing ancient Latin script. “It’s like they stumbled onto something they weren’t meant to find,” said a source within the Carabinieri.
Conspiracy theorists online now claim this could be linked to a medieval cult tied to the Medici family. Florence’s mayor has called for calm and urged visitors to stick to approved tours.
An official investigation is now underway.
