Terrible decision: Indiana Fever General Manager Amber Cox and Head Coach Stephanie made a terrible decision

Official WNBA Update: Indiana Fever General Manager Amber Cox and Head Coach Stephanie White just officially announced the termination of three top sensational star players’ contracts due

The Indiana Fever snapped a three-game losing streak with a much-needed 85–76 win over the Washington Mystics on Wednesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in a Commissioner’s Cup matchup — and they did it without their two top scorers.

All-Star rookie Caitlin Clark remained sidelined with a left quadriceps strain, and sharpshooter Sophie Cunningham missed the game due to an ankle injury. Despite those setbacks, the Fever delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, showcasing balanced scoring, timely defense, and a spark from both veterans and newcomers alike.

The team’s official X (formerly Twitter) account quickly posted celebratory content after the victory, reflecting the sense of relief and optimism among Fever fans. One fan summed it up best:

Veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 24 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the field and 4-of-7 from deep. She provided a steady hand throughout the night and hit several key buckets to halt Washington’s momentum.

Off the bench, Lexie Hull gave the Fever a huge lift with 14 points and six rebounds, especially impactful during a third-quarter surge that flipped the game’s trajectory. Aliyah Boston was perfect from the floor, scoring 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting. Meanwhile, veteran DeWanna Bonner added nine points, and Aari McDonald, making her Fever debut, chipped in seven points and five assists.

In total, Indiana shot a season-best 50.8% from the field, and their 11 made three-pointers on 28 attempts also marked a season high — a welcome sight for a team that had struggled from beyond the arc in recent games.

The turning point came in the third quarter. Indiana outscored Washington 31–21, breaking open a tight contest and building a double-digit lead that the Mystics couldn’t recover from. The Fever capitalized on defensive lapses and maintained their edge with energetic transition play and smart execution in half-court sets.
