A year ago, while evaluating NFL MVP candidates, I expressed my disappointment over the lack of individuals performing at sufficient levels for consideration.
There isn’t any issue as the 2024 MVP race approaches its concluding phases.
Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and Saquon Barkley are elite players whose traditional and/or advanced statistics align with historic benchmarks for MVP evaluation.
A month ago, Jackson was my favorite while evaluating the situation, mainly because his performance enabled Baltimore to secure victories despite the Ravens’ defense and special teams providing poor support. The image appears altered now. Allen and Burrow have risen quickly. Barkley, surpassing 2,000 yards in rushing, belongs to a distinct category as a player who isn’t a quarterback. His strongest argument transcends mere statistics.
We’ll begin with the quarterbacks since they are clearly the most important. We’ll conclude with the unique situation regarding Barkley, who has contributed to changing the most pass-focused organization of the last twenty-five years.
In my opinion, the top MVP contenders are dynamic, high-performing quarterbacks on teams that succeed even with inadequate support from their defenses and special teams. These are the definitive quarterbacks who lead to victory.
