Netflix Unleashes Black Metal Biopic: Shadows of Helheim”
Netflix has announced an original biopic centered on a fictional Norwegian black metal band called Shadows of Helheim. The film, titled Blackened Souls, will chronicle the band’s rise from a remote Arctic village to underground global infamy. Known for performing in candlelit ruins and their refusal to record digitally, Shadows of Helheim became a symbol of “pure black metal.”
Directed by Robert Eggers (The Northman), the gritty film promises a raw, surreal journey into the heart of darkness. Actor Bill Skarsgård is set to play frontman “Vargthrone,” while the soundtrack will feature original tracks composed by metal legends collaborating in secret.
Early footage shown at a private Netflix event reportedly caused viewers to “feel cold to the soul.” The film debuts in 2026 and is already sparking debate over its graphic authenticity and occult themes.
