Netflix to Release Documentary on Legendary Music Band Alice in Chains in March 2025
Netflix has announced a new documentary chronicling the journey of legendary grunge band Alice in Chains, set to release in March 2025. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sophie Thompson, the documentary, titled Down in a Hole: The Story of Alice in Chains, promises an in-depth look at the band’s rise from the Seattle music scene to worldwide acclaim. The film is expected to feature rare footage, exclusive interviews with the band members, and insights from close friends and collaborators, offering fans an intimate perspective on the highs and lows that defined the band’s career.
The documentary will highlight Alice in Chains’ unique blend of heavy metal and grunge, which helped define the sound of the 1990s alongside bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. Formed in 1987 by guitarist Jerry Cantrell and lead vocalist Layne Staley, Alice in Chains became known for hits like “Man in the Box,” “Would?,” and “Rooster.” The film will also delve into the personal struggles and tragedies that affected the band, including Staley’s tragic battle with addiction and untimely death in 2002, which left a lasting impact on fans and the music industry alike.
