Motörhead Unearth Lost 1976 Recordings to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

In celebration of their 50th anniversary, legendary British rock band Motörhead has announced the release of previously unheard recordings from 1976, offering fans a rare glimpse into the band’s early evolution. Titled “Lost Tapes: 1976 Sessions”, the collection features raw studio takes and live tracks that capture the raw energy of the band before their breakthrough album, Overkill.

Discovered in an old manager’s archive, the recordings showcase the classic lineup—Lemmy Kilmister, “Fast” Eddie Clarke, and Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor—during their formative years. These tracks include early versions of fan favorites and unreleased songs that highlight the band’s gritty, no-frills sound that would go on to define heavy metal and punk alike.

Set for release in fall 2025, the anniversary package will include a remastered vinyl edition, an in-depth booklet featuring unseen photos, and commentary from surviving band members and close collaborators. A deluxe edition will also feature a replica tour pass, vintage memorabilia, and a documentary chronicling the band’s early days.

Motörhead’s management team emphasized the emotional weight of the release. “This is more than music—it’s the raw heartbeat of a band that changed the face of rock forever,” said a spokesperson.

Fans can expect the first single to drop in July, accompanied by a lyric video using archival footage. As Motörhead’s legacy roars into its sixth decade, these unearthed gems are a thunderous reminder of the band’s enduring power and unapologetic spirit.
