Mercyful Fate Returns: New Album and World Tour Confirmed for 2025
Copenhagen, Denmark – In a monumental announcement that has electrified the heavy metal world, Mercyful Fate has confirmed plans for a 2025 world tour alongside the release of a brand-new studio album. This will be the band’s first full-length release since 1999’s 9 and their most extensive tour in over two decades.
Frontman King Diamond shared the exciting news in a live-streamed event, describing the upcoming album as “a dark and powerful journey that stays true to the spirit of Mercyful Fate but explores new dimensions of our sound.” The band has been working on the album in a Copenhagen studio for over a year, collaborating with longtime producer Hank Shermann to craft what King Diamond called “the most ambitious project we’ve ever undertaken.”
The world tour, which kicks off in early 2025, will take the band to major cities across North America, Europe, South America, and Asia. Fans can expect a mix of classic tracks such as “Melissa” and “Curse of the Pharaohs” alongside new material. The stage design is rumored to feature elaborate visuals inspired by the themes of the new album.
Shermann commented, “This is the reunion our fans have been waiting for, and we’re making sure it’s worth the wait. The new songs have the intensity and storytelling people expect from us, but we’re also experimenting with elements that are going to surprise a lot of listeners.”
Mercyful Fate’s last live performances were during a limited reunion tour in 2022, but this marks their most significant activity since their heyday in the 1980s. The band has also confirmed that they will headline several major festivals in summer 2025, with more details to be revealed soon.
Tickets for the 2025 world tour go on sale November 17, 2024, and the album is slated for release in spring 2025. Fans are already buzzing with excitement, marking this as a historic moment for heavy metal.
