New York Yankees Update: Spring Training Developments and Broadcast Changes
Amazon Prime Video to Stream 21 Yankees Games
Amazon Prime Video has announced that it will exclusively stream 21 New York Yankees regular-season games for the 2025 MLB season. These games will be available at no additional cost to Prime members in New York State, Connecticut, north and central New Jersey, and northeast Pennsylvania. The first exclusive game is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, when the Yankees host the Arizona Diamondbacks at 7:05 p.m. ET.
Yankees Adjust Postgame Tradition
In a shift from tradition, the New York Yankees will now play Frank Sinatra’s “Theme From New York, New York” only after home victories. Previously, the song was played after both wins and losses at Yankee Stadium.
Spring Training Highlights
- Ben Rice’s Performance: The Yankees are expressing enthusiasm about catcher Ben Rice’s performance during spring training. His strong showing has generated excitement within the organization, with potential for him to secure a spot on the team after Spring Training.
- Jake Cousins’ Recovery: Reliever Jake Cousins is set to begin his recovery after a forearm strain that sidelined him for nearly five weeks. Recent imaging showed positive results, and he will commence a throwing program on Monday. Although Cousins will miss Opening Day, he aims to catch up with other pitchers who began their spring training earlier.
- Spring Training Game vs. Cardinals: The Yankees are scheduled to face the St. Louis Cardinals in a spring training matchup at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida. The game will feature several expected Opening Day starters, including Jasson Domínguez, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt. Prospect Will Warren will take the mound for the Yankees, with fans looking for signs of improvement. The game is set for 1:05 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on the YES Network.
Facial Hair Policy Update
The New York Yankees have updated their long-standing facial hair policy, allowing players and personnel to have well-groomed beards starting from the 2025 MLB season. This marks the end of a 50-year ban on beards, although mustaches were previously permitted. The change comes after extensive consultations by Managing General Partner Hal Steinbrenner with former and current team members. Fan reactions have been mixed, with some supporting the modern approach and others lamenting the move away from tradition.
