Mark Pope has made it clear: rising star Otega Oweh is a cornerstone of the program’s future. In a press conference this week, Pope detailed his plans for Oweh, emphasizing development, leadership, and maximizing the guard’s two-way potential as the Wildcats look to rebuild under new direction.
“Otega is one of those rare players who combines raw athleticism with an elite work ethic,” Pope said. “Our goal is to give him the structure, confidence, and opportunity to elevate every part of his game.”
Oweh, who transferred to Kentucky after a breakout season at Oklahoma, is expected to play a major role on both ends of the floor. Known for his aggressive defense, slashing ability, and high motor, he’s seen as a player who can lead by example as Pope implements a fast-paced, disciplined style.
