The Bruins bolstered their blue line by signing defenseman Drew Bavaro to a one-year contract with an NHL cap hit of $867,500. The 23-year-old will report to the Providence Bruins on an amateur tryout for the remainder of the 2023–24 season.

Bavaro recently had a fruitful year as a student-athlete at Notre Dame, where he finished with 10 goals and 10 assists for a total of 20 points in the 2023–24 season. Among all Fighting Irish defensemen, he tied for the lead in points, third in assists, and first in goals.

He also attended Bentley University for the first two seasons of his collegiate career, making him a semi-local. He has most likely visited Causeway Street once or twice. The 202-pound, 6-foot-3 defenseman will play in his first professional game on Tuesday after participating in 124 NCAA games.

The Bruins might not need him for the remainder of this season, but one injury could thrust him into consideration for a roster spot.
