Novak Djokovic disagrees with what his former coach Goran Ivanisevic has said about him as Wimbledon progresses

‎Novak Djokovic is showing no signs of age catching up to him at Wimbledon, and is through to the quarter-finals for the 16th time in his career.

‎

‎Djokovic defeated Alex de Minaur in four sets, after coming back from a set down against the Australian, with his former rival, Roger Federer, watching on in the royal box.

‎

‎The Serb, who is in pursuit of a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title at the All England Club, will face Flavio Cobolli in his next match.

‎

‎He and Cobolli have met just once before at the Shanghai Masters in 2024, where the Italian suffered a straight-sets defeat.

‎

‎Goran Ivanisevic, Djokovic‘s former coach, recently made a prediction about the 38-year-old at Wimbledon, which he responded to in his post-match press conference.

‎Djokovic was asked: “Your former coach Goran Ivanisevic says you’re the only one capable of beating [Jannik] Sinner and [Carlos] Alcaraz. He says you’re the favourite to win here. Do you agree?”

‎

‎He responded: “I love Goran and I’m happy he loves me back. But I don’t think I’m a favourite against these guys at the moment.

‎

‎“I think they are, both of them. But I do probably have my best chance here against them.

‎

‎“If it comes down to me facing one of them or two of them, which I hope so… that means I’ll proceed to the finals.. then I’ll obviously look for my best game to win.

‎

‎“I think I do have a chance. There’s no doubt about it. I think my results on grass, even in the previous years, are a testament to my confidence on this surface.

‎

‎“I’ve been playing some really good tennis this year. I feel good about myself. I feel confident. I feel motivated to go all the way. Let’s see what happens.”

‎Djokovic came into Wimbledon having not played a grass-court tune-up event, as he has done in the past.

‎

‎Once again, that hasn’t mattered for the world number six, who has dropped just two sets so far at the tournament this year.

‎Third Round Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 6-0, 6-4

‎Second Round Dan Evans 6-3, 6-2, 6-0

‎First Round Alexandre Muller 6-1, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2

‎He had a near scare in the second set of his first-round match with Alexandre Muller, but recovered well, and won in four sets.

‎

‎Then, Djokovic swept aside both Dan Evans and Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets, to advance to the fourth round.

‎

‎With his win over de Minaur, he now has a golden opportunity to surpass Margaret Court for the most major titles won by any man or woman in history
