Ambulance Overturns After Collision With White Mini-Van in Outer Banks, NC

June 2, 2025 | OBX, North Carolina

An emergency response turned into a scene of chaos this morning when an ambulance was **tipped onto its side** following a collision with a white mini-van at the intersection of **11th Street and NC-12** in the heart of the **Outer Banks**.

The crash occurred shortly before **9:30 AM**, just blocks from the beach. According to preliminary reports from Dare County officials, the ambulance had its sirens activated and was en route to a separate medical emergency when the mini-van allegedly failed to yield at a stop sign.

Eyewitnesses describe the moment of impact as “violent” and “explosive,” with the force of the crash sending the ambulance skidding sideways before tipping onto its right side. Beachgoers and nearby residents rushed to the scene to assist.

“It was like slow motion,” said Heather Mills, a local shop owner. “The van just rolled right through, and the next thing we knew, the ambulance was on its side. It’s a miracle no one was killed.”

Two paramedics and one patient were inside the ambulance at the time. All three sustained **non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to The Outer Banks Hospital. The driver of the mini-van, who has not yet been identified, was treated at the scene and taken into custody for questioning.

Traffic was rerouted for over two hours as emergency crews cleared the wreckage and launched an investigation. Authorities are reviewing dash cam footage from the ambulance and nearby traffic cameras.

Officials urge drivers to be especially cautious on coastal roads during high tourist season, and to always yield to emergency vehicles.

No charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
