Los Angeles, CA – June 2, 2025

Netflix has struck a powerful chord with music fans by announcing its latest original documentary, Low End Legend: The Tal Wilkenfeld Story, premiering in March 2026. The highly anticipated film chronicles the extraordinary life of Tal Wilkenfeld—a prodigy who went from playing bass in her Sydney bedroom to sharing stages with music royalty before she could even vote.

The official poster, revealed today, features Wilkenfeld bathed in warm, golden stage light, her signature bass guitar cradled with quiet intensity. The tagline reads: “Before she could vote, she was sharing stages with legends”—a nod to her early rise to stardom with Jeff Beck, Prince, Herbie Hancock, and more. Netflix calls the film “a portrait of soul, strings, and self-discovery.”

Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Ava Torres, Low End Legend promises an intimate exploration of Tal’s journey—covering everything from her teenage decision to move to the U.S. to her solo songwriting evolution. The documentary features never-before-seen performance footage, early interviews, and studio sessions that reveal the grit and grace behind her success.

“I’ve always tried to let the music speak first,” Wilkenfeld said in a statement. “But this film gave me the chance to reflect on where I’ve been—and how I got here. It’s vulnerable, but it’s real.”

In addition to Tal’s own voice, the film includes powerful testimonials from her collaborators, including Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, and Don Was. The film also features commentary from music historians and female bassists she’s inspired. “Tal didn’t just show up and hold her own,” says one interviewee in the trailer, “She elevated the stage for everyone.”

What sets Low End Legend apart is its focus on duality—Wilkenfeld not just as a sideman to icons, but as an artist in her own right. Her 2019 solo album Love Remains marked a creative leap, showcasing her skills as a lyricist, vocalist, and emotional storyteller. The documentary dives deep into that transformation, treating it not as a detour but a destination.

The film’s premiere will be accompanied by a special Spotify playlist curated by Wilkenfeld herself, plus a limited vinyl release of the film’s score and live recordings. Netflix also plans a short companion series of music masterclasses led by Tal, titled Low End Lessons, launching on its YouTube channel.

With its powerful visuals and heart-thumping narrative, Low End Legend is set to inspire not just bass players, but anyone chasing mastery with humility. As Netflix’s head of music content, Dana Marshall, puts it: “Tal’s story is quiet thunder. You don’t just hear her—you feel her.”
