The season is over for the Denver Broncos following a tough loss against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in the Wild Card round. Rather than preparing for their next game, the focus now shifts to the offseason for Denver.
If you watched on Sunday, you can see that the Broncos need to load up on offensive weapons for Bo Nix this offseason, but how about the team’s own free agents? There will be some tough decisions to make withIt remains to be seen which direction the organization will decide to go in when it comes to some of these players, but Sunday should have been the last time we see the following players in a Denver uniform.
It was a bit of a surprise to see the Broncos keep D.J. Jones this season as cutting him last summer could have saved $10 million against the salary cap. The Broncos felt they were too thin along the defensive line and needed Jones.
The team will face a similar issue with depth this offseason. If the Broncos choose not to re-sign Jones, they will need a player such as Eyioma Uwazurike or Jordan Jackson to step up next season. The team could also look to the draft for options.
The Broncos need to use their resources to load up on offensive weapons, but the case of Jones is an interesting one. The Broncos don’t have great depth behind him but the team also can’t pay him $10 million per year. If he’s willing to stay in Denver for the old “hometown discount” then the team should bring him back but if not or if another team is willing to pay him that or more, the Broncos will have to take their chances elsewhere.
