Netflix Drops New Documentary “Duel Masters: The Yu-Gi-Oh! Story”
Netflix just released _Duel Masters: The Yu-Gi-Oh! Story_, a 90-minute documentary diving into the 28-year legacy of Kazuki Takahashi’s card-and-anime phenomenon. The film premiered globally today, exploring how a manga about shadow games in 1996 became a billion-dollar franchise spanning trading cards, video games, and 7 anime series.
The doc features never-before-seen interviews with original voice actors, Konami designers, and early tournament champions. It traces Yu-Gi-Oh!’s journey from _Weekly Shōnen Jump_ pages to the 1998 Toei Animation adaptation, the rise of Duel Monsters, and the cultural explosion of the trading card game in the early 2000s. 5d84fd14
Director Lisa Chen says the goal was “to show the human side behind the cards—kids who found confidence through dueling, and the team who built a world around it.” The film also addresses Takahashi’s impact before his passing in 2022.
Netflix confirmed the doc will include archival footage and deep dives into iconic duels. It’s available now with subtitles in 32 languages.
